The exhibition aims to present the nature of LGBT+ activism in the Czech Republic from the time of the first republic of Czechoslovakia until present. Text itself is complemented by unique photographs documenting the history and important milestones of queer culture in our country.

Criminalization of love, life in secrecy, but also hope and unrelenting fight for human rights. All of this is a part of our queer history, which the exhibition aims to show as a celebration of 10 years existence of the Prague Pride.

Thirty years ago, the Czechs stood up against the hegemony of one party, for which an individual meant nothing. Individuality and personality were trampled on underfoot and destroyed. Among those who jangled the keys in the squares during protests against the Communist regime were a number of people that we would now designate as LGBT. In better cases, they were called homosexuals. Being LGBT meant total self-denial or total exclusion from society. There was nothing in between. This is why LGBT people longed for freedom all the more – they wanted to be at last themselves and live happily.
