Untold Stories from Armenia
10.August @ 18:00 - 19:45| Free
Join us for the screening of the first major documentary movie (in Armenian, with English subtitles) featuring the daily life of ten Armenian LGBTQ. Each of them shares their struggles, victories, pain and hope, as they openly embrace their identity in a society still defined by patriarchal values with still little tolerance for alternative identities and lifestyle.
Conceived as a dictionary of key issues faced by the LGBTQ community, the film presents a rich variety of angles and opinions on how to live as a LGBTQ person in today’s Armenia. The film was directed by Gagik Ghazareh and produced by PINK Armenia, an NGO promoting the rights of LGBTQ persons in Armenia. In July 2017, the film was scheduled for a screening at Armenia’s top international film event, the Golden Apricot Festival, but was removed last minute and without any official explanation by the organizers, as well as other documentaries focusing on human rights issues. While homosexuality was made legal in Armenia in 2003, it is opposed by the Armenian Apostolic Church , and most mainstream media maintain a homophobic discourse.
The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session with Eduard Martirosyan, an LGBTQ activist from PINK Armenia.
Please come on time as there is a limited capacity of the hall.
